WHICH STAINLESS STEEL IS THE BEST?
In order to answer this question, we must understand the different grades of stainless steel. There are over more than 100 grades of stainless steel being used all over the world. Each grade is differentiated by the chemical composition of chromium, nickel, and other elements. In order to simplify and not make the user confused, many grade of stainless steel is divided into 5 types of family.

The following types of the family of stainless steel families include austenitic, martensitic, ferritic, duplex and precipitation-hardening. We will not explore too deeply about the different grades of steel. However, we will explore the most common grade used for watches, which is the austenitic grade 304 steel.
WHAT IS GRADE 304 STAINLESS STEEL
Grade 304 is also known as 18/8 stainless steel. It is named 18/8 because of the chemical composition of the steel, which comprises 18% of chromium and 8% of nickel by weight. No doubt, the balanced chemical composition makes it very easy to form, weld, clean, and non-reactive as well. On top of that, it is relatively affordable as well, and provide excellent corrosion resistance. One of the more popular uses of grad 304 includes kitchen appliances, food, and beverage industries and architecture as well. However, grade 304 stainless steel is also suitable to be used for watches as well.

Besides watches, grade 304 is also very commonly used to make watch bracelets, and other types of jewelry as well. There are other grades of stainless steel like grade 420, 430, 220 and etc but none of them are more suitable than 304 grade. Therefore, the next time you go and buy a watch, check what grade of stainless steel they are giving. Do not let the manufacturer’s tricked you into believing that you bough 304 high-quality stainless steel instead of grade 310.
